Characters: Jamie McCrimmon (
bonnypiperlad) and the Computer
Location: Somewhere out there, wherever the computer room might be.
Time: Appearing at random on the television screens, precise time unknown
Summary: Jamie might be a wee bit confused by a question.
Yet another television screen flickers on somewhere on the Plane, showing the computer room. This time there is a young Scot there, standing in front of the screen, which reads:
In the end, everyone has a price. What is your price, Jamie McCrimmon?
Jamie hasn't read the words yet. Instead, he's standing, glaring up at the ceiling, and looking quite annoyed at being brought here.
"Hey! I've played your game once. I'll not do it a second time!"
He folds his arms against his chest, and waits...and waits...and waits. Once it's evident his bluff has been called and he's not going to be sent back any time soon, he makes a face and goes to sit down in the chair. "Fine. What is it ye want me to do now?" He reads the words on the screen, then blinks a little at them. "My price? My price for /what/?"
Jamie stares at the screen for awhile, then seems to come up with an idea. He goes to press the button to activate the microphone and speaks carefully. "My price is to have this whole thing be over and the Plane to go back to the way it was."
This isn't actually true - although it would be good - and he gets a shock. He pulls his hand back quickly with a cry of pain, grimacing as he waves his fingers to get the sensation to go away. "Ah! Ooh, that smarts!" There's a brief pause before he continues. "Well, it was worth a try."
He goes back to looking at the screen, his mouth pulled off to one side in a rather disgruntled sort of way. Jamie's like this for some time. All he can think of is what he would admit to wanting right now in order to be let out of the room. He then finally goes to press the button again.
"I want my friends here to be safe. I want to be able to get back to my Doctor. And...I want to see Victoria again. For real, this time, and not some hallucination."
Since this answer is truth, the computer accepts it. The question is erased from the screen and replaced with the following instead:
There is always something people would pay to have. Remember that.
It's only after he's returned to the plane that Jamie realizes what the question actually meant. He's grateful it accepted his answer and let him go - as he's never thought about what it would take for him to put the others on the Plane through this. He may have been there a long, long time indeed.
