But it is Dist and some part of Jade, a part he attributes to Nephry and Peony's influence, insists that he can't simply leave Dist to die. Jade insists to this part that not dying is more or less Dist's only ability of any worth, and so he should help the adventurers to make certain the job is done properly. It isn't exactly an argument he enjoy having with himself, and it isn't one he wants to let Guy in on.
Which may be why he threw in a casual mention of the Emperor.
